The Book Lover Survey

Ok so it’s been a long while since I have posted anything up on this blog! Over a month in fact! But, until recently, there really hasn’t been that much to talk about on here.  I was, however, just looking through my Bloglovin’ feed and I found ‘The Book Lovers Survey’ which I thought was quite cute so I have decided to do it as my ‘comeback’ post. I hope you enjoy my responses to the questions 🙂

Do you remember how you developed a love for reading?
My dad is a massive bookworm and has been since he was a young child, so he’s always reading one book or another and I was brought up around that. My dad always ensured that every Christmas and Birthday without fail I would receive a book as a present and I think just really encouraged me to read as much as possible because I didn’t want to take my presents foregranted. My parents also introduced me to some of their childhood books when I was young and they were the type to really allow your imagination to go wild so I think that helped too.

Where do you usually read?
It tends to vary but I have three usual places: in bed at night time, in my living room at home during the day and on a beach when I’m on holiday. I find it easy to read anywhere though so I tend to read on public transport a lot when I have to travel regularly.

Do you prefer to read one book at a time or several at once?
One book at a time, that’s why I can’t read loads of academic books for university and then go home and just pick up some fiction – it messes with my brain. When I don’t have academic reading to do, I’d rather come home and read a book I enjoy. But if I’ve got a load of core module textbooks to get through, I’d rather watch a boxset to unwind.

What is your favourite genre?
My friends probably won’t be surprised by this but romance. I mean I like a good suspense or thriller too but it has to be written really well to capture my attention because at the moment, being at university, if I do read, I don’t want something that’s going to require too much of my concentration – I just want an easy read that I don’t need to think about. That will probably change once I graduate and never have to study again!

Is there a genre you will not read?
Science fiction probably – anything that is stupid and unrealistic and would never happen in a thousand years.

Do you have a favourite book?
Oh wow ok there is a pretty long list of books that I love so it could take a long time to get through them. If I had to choose one though I think it would have to be Pride & Prejudice. I actually read it at quite a young age but I fell utterly in love with it and it has remained at/near the top of my favourites list for many many years.

What is your least favourite book?
I found Life of Pi quite dry and I struggle with some of the other classics but I don’t really have a least favourite book.

What is the longest book you have ever read?
Does the Harry Potter series count? 🙂 I tried Les Miserables because of my love for musicals but Victor Hugo just whitters on a bit too much for me.

What was the last book you bought?
Errrrrrrrrm…is it bad that I can’t remember?! I download everything to my Kindle now so in all honesty, I don’t really pay attention to the names of books, I pay attention to the descriptions and see if they grab me.

Do you prefer library books or buying books?
Buying books, easy.

What are you currently reading?
A lot of academic books about focus group research and snowball sampling – I love my life!

So there you go, a quick and brief insight into my life to declare that I am back 🙂

Talk soon xxx
